Influence of Defense Style and Social Desirability in Mothers of Disordered Children upon Child-rearing Attitudes

Abstract
Birth of a disordered child functions not only general challenge and responsibility to all the family members including parents, but also big stress while allowing additional difficulty. Accordingly, this study examined this because the potential defense style and social desirability in mothers of disordered children will have influence upon child-rearing attitude, thereby having aimed to allow it to be possibly applied to a program of understanding psychology of a mother who has a disordered child, and supports a disordered child¡¯s family. The research subjects were 188 mothers for 13 day care centers exclusively for disabilities where are located in Busan Metropolitan City. The following conclusions were obtained. First, out of defense style in mothers of disordered children, the adaptive defense style and social desirability were shown the positive correlation with affectionate child-rearing attitude and autonomous child-rearing attitude. Out of maladaptive defense style, the immature defense style and conflict-avoidant defense style were indicated to have negative correlation with the affectionate child-rearing attitude and autonomous child-rearing attitude. Second, the adaptive defense style and the self-inhibitory defense style out of defense style, and the self-deceptive enhancement out of social desirability were indicated to have positive influence upon affectionate-rejective child-rearing attitude. The immature defense style and the conflict-avoidant defense style were indicated to have negative influence upon affectionate-rejective child-rearing attitude. And, the immature defense style was indicated to have negative influence upon autonomous-controlled child-rearing attitude.
